Couponing 101

Several people have asked me recently how to best organize their coupons. After trying lots of different methods, I've decided that filing my coupon inserts by date works best for me. Here's an idea of what my files look like:

As you can see (or, maybe not, since the picture is so crummy... ugh.), I file my inserts by name (SS = Smart Source, RP = Red Plum, PG = P&G Brand Saver) and by date (example: SS 2/7).
I only "clip" individual coupons as I need them. Some people argue that I miss out on some great clearance deals by not carrying all of my coupons with me when I shop. While this may be true, I believe that I save myself time and money by shopping for only the items that are on my list. Take, for example, the chat I had with the cashier at King Soopers awhile back:
Cashier: "Did you find everything you needed?"
Moi: "Yes, thank you."
Cashier: "And more, I'm sure." (chuckle, chuckle)
Moi: "No way. Rule #1: NEVER divert from the list." (chuckle, chuckle)
Cahier: "Wow! Really? That must take some serious self discipline."
Moi: "Yes it does and it's worth every penny." (friendly smile and leave a couple business cards at the register for the ladies in line behind me who are watching my subtotal tick down to the bare minimum as each coupon is scanned. (= )
So, there you have it - the reason I don't carry an enourmous coupon binder with me everywhere I go.
How do you go about clipping (or, not clipping) and storing your coupons?
