If you've been following my blog for any length of time, you know that my husband and I are in the middle of Dave Ramsey's 13 week Financial Peace University Class. Tonight's lesson was entitled, "How To Buy Only Big, Big Bargains". I was especially interested in this session, seeing as I spend a large portion of my time seeking great bargains.
I was excited to learn some great, new bargain hunting tips, but I was even more impacted by Dave's underlying message - to always, always tell the truth. Before I was forced into the world of couponing, I was one of those people who was beyond hesitant to use coupons or engage in negotiations with salespeople. It felt almost confrontational and inappropriate; as if I were trying somehow to take advantage of someone by offering less than asking price.
It's so clear to me now that spending our money wisely by clipping coupons, price negotiating and other methods is never wrong, unless there is any element of dishonesty whatsoever. So, please, my fellow couponers - let's all agree to maintain the utmost integrity when handing over coupons and bargaining for great deals for our families.
It's not always easy to keep our cool when a cashier or even a manager is less than thrilled to accept our stack of coupons. I've been playing the game long enough now that I know which cashier's line to choose (the ones who happily accept my coupons) and whose line to avoid altogether. The point is that couponers, for the most part, are not greedy, dishonest people who try to scam money and/or products out of retailers; in fact, the majority of couponers are hard working men and women who are vigilant about providing quality products to their families at the best possible price.
So, friends, use your coupons and do your bargaining in an honest and forthright manner and always, always tell the truth...
