Staying Fit and Frugal In Colorado Springs

Thank you, thank you to friend / reader Amber N. who has been a great supporter of Frugal Is The New Sexy from the very beginning, for sharing a few frugal tips with us as I recover:

Being the mom of a very active three and a half year old boy, I am always searching for new ways to keep him busy. Due to recent changes, my family is also trying to watch our spending and I am still trying to lose the baby weight from my 9 month old son. A gym membership is not in our budget, nor is buying the books I was interested in reading about weight loss and budgeting.
Last Monday, I decided to have a day of free fun, exercise and shopping. Yes, I said FREE. First stop, the park. I loaded up the double stroller and walked the track. The kids were entertained by looking at the sights and I got in a good work out. Next, we went up to the playground and let the boy run and play until he was worn out while enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. Finally, the free shopping. I had not been to a public library since my school days. I was shocked by the amount and types of materials that they had. I was able to find five books that I wanted to read as well as a book on CD for my husband to listen to while he commutes. Then more fun for the boy, he picked out books and a DVD and thought it was just the best thing ever.
I must say, I was shocked a the value of the local library and can't believe that I hadn't utilized their services yet. I have hundreds of dollars of books and DVD's sitting on a shelf collecting dust. Had I just gone to the library, I could have saved all of that money.
I went to the library's web-site and found all kinds of fun activities that they have for kids. I will definitely be visiting more often, especially this summer.
So, there you have it...a day of free fun, exercise and shopping.
